Education access, equity, inclusion and quality

Nelson Mandela is quoted to have said “Educationis the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world’. He went on to say ‘Education is the great engine of personal development. It is through education that the daughter of a peasant can become a doctor, that the son of a mine worker can become the head of the mine, that a child of farmworkers can become the president of a great nation”.

It is therefore important that the barriers to equity and inclusion in education provision are identified and removed, thereby allowing a leveled playing field for all children, everywhere. This is the spirit of SDG4- Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Our work is geared towards identifying these barriers to education equity, inclusion and quality, and designing interventions that remove these barriers and hence create a levelled playing field for teaching and learning in Africa. These include among others:

  • School leadership and governance
  • Gender issues in education access, teaching and learning
  • Disability issues in education access, teaching and learning
  • Teacher practice, classroom environment and pedagogy
  • Teacher and school leader motivation
  • Curriculum reform and skilling for the workplace and business management
  • System led school monitoring, support supervision and improvement
  • Logistical/Resource development planning
  • Use of technology in school improvement planning
  • Parental/Community engagement in children’s learning & institutional development
